According to Bloomberg,OpenAI Greg Brockman, president of OpenAI and one of the company's key players, is taking an extended vacation to "relax and recharge," a company spokesperson said. Separately, researcher John Schulman left the company today for rival artificial intelligence AI startup Anthropic.
Brockman said on X that its going on vacation until the end of the year, writing, "This is the first time we've relaxed since co-founding OpenAI 9 years ago. The mission is far from complete and we still have a secure AGI to build."
Schulman also confirmed his departure, "I made the difficult decision to leave OpenAI. This choice stems from my desire to deepen my focus on AI and to start a new chapter in my career that will allow me to return to real-world technical work," Schulman said at X. "I have decided to pursue this goal at Anthropic."
Both of these men are companyCo-FounderTheir departures mean that fewer and fewer of OpenAI's original team remain. The spokesperson also said that in addition to Schulman and Brockman, Peter Deng, vice president of product, has left in recent months.
This year has seen a number of departures of OpenAI executives. Ilya Sutskever and Jan Leike, two of the core members of the SuperAlignment team, which is responsible for the safe alignment of AI, have also left to join Anthropic, along with other security and governance resignations within the company.
TechCrunch reports that only three of OpenAI's 11 founders are still with the company.
