The dental industry ushered in a historic moment, with an AI-controlled autonomous robot completing the world's first dental surgery. And faster than humansdentisitAbout eight times faster.
The AI robot, made by Boston-based company Perceptive, uses a handheld 3D volumetric scanner to create a detailed 3D model of the oral cavity, including teeth, gums and even the nerves beneath the tooth surface, using optical coherence tomography (OCT).
OCT uses only beams to create a volume model with high resolution, automatically detects cavities with an accuracy of approximately 90%, and avoids harmful X-ray radiation.
Should AI RobotsThe first surgery completed wasPreparing the tooth for a crown: Local anesthesia will be administered to help numb your tooth and surrounding gums for optimal comfort, and then the original tooth will be polished down to make enough room for the crown, maintaining the integrity of the tooth structure.
The above operation usually takes 1-2 hours for dentists and is usually divided into 2 visits, but the AI robot can complete it in less than 15 minutes.
