According to the statement, Fujitsu has made a "significant investment" in the partnership, which will see Cohere capitalize on the strengths of its AI models and Fujitsu apply its expertise in Japanese language training and tuning technologies. Fujitsu's success in the IT services sector has enabled it to effectively combine Cohere's technology with local market needs to drive the digital transformation of organizations.

The name "Takane" means "mountain" and will be based on Cohere's Command R+ model, a high-end, scalable, large-scale language model designed for real-world business applications. The model will provide organizations with multilingual support, best reference generation (RAG), and powerful API tools to automate complex workflows.

With the launch of Takane, Fujitsu said it expects to significantly improve the productivity and efficiency of local businesses. Fujitsu will also utilize Cohere's Embed and Rerank models to build advanced enterprise search applications and retrieval augmentation generation (RAG) systems to further enrich its AI portfolio.

The model is scheduled to be officially available for enterprise use in September 2024 through Fujitsu's Kozuchi Cloud platform. Fujitsu also plans to leverage its platforms such as Data Intelligence PaaS and Uvance to extend the joint solution to a wider customer base.

While Cohere's partnership with Fujitsu may not be as notable as OpenAI's establishment of a dedicated AI center, the move certainly provides Cohere with a broader customer base in the Japanese market. By partnering with Fujitsu, Cohere will be able to engage more deeply with Japanese organizations' AI adoption and meet their growing technology needs.
