The world's first AI Miss ModelBeauty Pageant WAICAs has set a total prize pool of 16,000 pounds (currently about 148,000 yuan), with more than 1,500 AI characters and 10,000 AI team members participating worldwide.
WAICAs stands for the futuristic World Artificial Intelligence Creator Awards, hosted by Fanvue, and will judge the impact of artificial intelligence based on its realism, impact, and technicality.
The champion of this beauty pageant is Kenza Layli, an AI beauty from Morocco who currently has more than 200,000 followers on Instagram and 45,000 followers on TikTok.
Although the beauty pageant has ended, the controversy surrounding it has not ended.
Dr Sasha Luccioni, a Hugging Face AI researcher, said: “This is another stepping stone on the road to AI objectifying women. As a woman working in this field, I am not surprised, but I am disappointed.”

In a field like AI where diversity is clearly lacking, it’s not surprising that AI is being used to generate images of ideal women.
However, this beauty pageant is not about showing the practical role of AI, but more about empowering creators to redefine unrealistic beauty standards.
I shudder to think about the damage this does to girls' self-image. Barbie causes enough problems already, and she's not even designed to look like a real person.
When unrealistic feminine standards are socially accepted, girls develop distorted social perceptions and when they look in the mirror they discover that they do not meet the standards in many ways. The use of counterfeit and substandard skin care products, eating disorders and body dysmorphia among teenagers increase significantly.
