ChatGPT It's a powerful AI tool that can help you with many different tasks, but using it can sometimes cause problems, such as the need to constantly enter prompts, and privacy issues. However, there are some quick and easy settings that can help you solve these problems.
To take full advantage of OpenAI'sChatbots, you only need to adjust a few settings. While it will take a bit of time to complete these settings, your experience will be enhanced across the board. Not convinced? Try the custom ChatGPT settings below and see for yourself.
Before you begin, you'll need to make sure you're logged in to your OpenAI account or have registered for a new one. While you can use ChatGPT without an account, you must be logged in to adjust settings. Once the settings have been adjusted, they will be saved to your account and will automatically take effect on subsequent uses of ChatGPT.
Here's how it works.
1. Customize ChatGPT
Custom commands are the most time-saving setting of all. With it, every time ChatGPT generates a reply for you, you can enter commands for ChatGPT to follow, so you don't have to repeat them every time you enter a prompt.
For example, if you are a teacher or a parent and want all the responses generated to be age-appropriate for your child, you can use custom commands.
You can indicate age and background in the first box of the customized description, such as "I am a first-grade student teacher"
In the second box, you can specify the style of response you would like, for example, "Please answer in plain language so that even a 7 year old can understand the answer, avoid adult language, and keep the tone lively, interesting and positive."
How it works:Click on your profile picture in the upper right corner and select "Customize ChatGPT". In the pop-up window, there are two text boxes that ask "What would you like ChatGPT to know about you in order to provide a better response?" and "How would you like ChatGPT to respond? and "How would you like ChatGPT to respond?" .
After entering the instructions, make sure to turn on the toggle next to "Enable for new chats" so that the instructions will be used every time you enter a prompt in the future. If you don't want ChatGPT to follow a specific instruction, you can toggle the setting back to off.
2. Memory functions
The "Memory" feature, like "Customize ChatGPT", allows you to avoid repeating the same information every time you use the chatbot, resulting in a more have a better experience.
With the "Memory" feature turned on, the chatbot remembers any information you provide that may be used in generating subsequent answers.
How it works:Click on your profile picture in the top right corner > Settings > Personalization > Memories and turn it on or off. You can also click on the "Manage" setting to delete saved memories that you don't want to use later or don't want to be remembered.
3. Ad hoc chats
Generative AI models use user input to further train the model, and ChatGPT is no exception. Therefore, for the data confidentiality and security issues that users are most concerned about, ad-hoc chats provide a way to ensure that conversations remain private.
With the temporary chat feature enabled, your chats will not be used to create memories, train models, or appear in the history. However, OpenAI says that even with the ad-hoc chat feature enabled, it may keep chat logs for up to 30 days for security reasons.
How it works:All you need to do is click on the "ChatGPT" drop-down menu in the upper left corner and check the "Temporary Chat" option.
4. Improved modeling for all users
Regarding privacy and security, if you don't want your chat logs to be used to further train the model, you can turn off the "Improve model for all users" setting. This is especially important because the feature is turned on by default.
How it works. To turn this off, you need to click on your profile picture in the top right corner > Settings > Data Controls > Improve Modeling for All Users and then turn it off.
5. Themes
While it may seem trivial to have the ChatGPT interface displayed in a light or dark theme, it can significantly improve your experience. For example, I prefer to use dark mode on all my devices because it's better for my eyes. So, I also chose a dark theme in ChatGPT.
How it works. Visit the Settings page and find the "Theme" drop-down menu at the top of the pop-up window. Once clicked, you can choose between "System", "Light" and "Dark".
With the above settings, you can greatly enhance your ChatGPT experience, making every conversation more efficient and personalized.
