AI Audio Creation Company ElevenLabs Founded by former Palantir engineers, the company now announces the launch of its first iOS app: "ElevenLabs Reader”.
The app is designed to turn text files or web links into audio narratives that users can listen to on the move. Unlike the various AI models and features included on the ElevenLabs website, the iOS app is more focused, concentrating on converting text into audio narration.
Currently, the app's text-to-speech feature only supports English, but a pop-up screen suggests that more than 29 languages supported by the ElevenLabs website will soon be available in the iOS Reader app as well.
Users can download the app for free via the Apple App Store and must be running iOS 15 or later. First-time use requires signing into an existing ElevenLabs account or creating a new one with an email and password, Google or Apple account.
Upon logging in, the user is presented with a series of preloaded text files and corresponding audio narratives, mostly published fairy tales and folk tales such as Cinderella, The Three Little Bears, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic Victorian detective novel, The Sherlock Holmes Mysteries.
Additionally, users can add their own content via the plus button in the upper right corner of the app's main menu, including writing their own text, importing URLs copied and pasted from a mobile web browser, or selecting files from the iOS File app.
The app also integrates with the iOS default share form, allowing users to add widgets to their browsers and share links to the ElevenLabs iOS Reader app as they browse, eliminating the need to copy and paste.
Clicking on the default speed indicator in the bottom right corner of the app allows the user to increase the speed from 0.8x to 2x. the user can also choose from 11 different voices and accents by clicking on the icon on the left.
