The next step is to improve corporate communication
Back in 2017, a team of AI researchers and entrepreneurs from Stanford University, Technical University of Munich, and University of Cambridge co-founded Synthesia. The goal was simple: to provide a way for businesses to quickly move away from monotonous text-based content and toward more compelling and engaging video content. Over the years, they have developed an end-to-end platform where businesses can create customized AI voices and avatars (even choose from existing avatars) and combine them with pre-written or AI-generated scripts to generate AI videos.
, Synthesia has now been adopted by more than 55,000 companies, including Zoom, DuPont, Heineken, and Electrolux. The company has also greatly enhanced its AI avatars, making them more realistic and expressive. Just a few weeks ago, it launched a new Express-1 model that enables avatars to understand the context and emotions in text and change their tone and facial expressions to convey the content of the speech.
With the latest update, the company is continuing to improve its avatars. Basically, to enhance the storytelling capabilities of digital characters, the company is expanding their range of motion. This will enhance the personalities of avatars, allowing them to tell compelling stories using the full range of body language available to humans, including hand movements.
According to Synthesia's head of product marketing Dan-Vlad Kobasianu, the improved avatars were produced by training multiple large video and audio-based models with data collected from thousands of people around the world. He added that the avatars will also be fully controllable: users can specify the avatar's appearance through images and videos and create animations using skeleton sequences, but this is only part of the avatar upgrade.
Synthesia has also enhanced the ability for users to create personal AI avatars by allowing them to use a webcam or phone camera with a natural background. Company CEO Victor Riparbelli said this is particularly useful when users want to look more real, such as when doing tutorials. Recorded personal avatars will also have better lip sync and more natural speech, and can translate speech into more than 30 languages.
