June 6 News.Humane The company today wrote to all AI Pin users, asking them to immediately stop using the charging case that came with their devices. In an email to customers, the company said that the use of the charging case needs to be suspended due to the potential fire safety hazard of third-party supplied batteries.
Humane said they have "blacklisted" the battery supplier in question and are looking for a new partner. The company emphasized that the AI Pin main unit, the magnetic expansion battery, and the charging base are unaffected and safe to use. To compensate for the inconvenience, Humane is offering users a free two-month subscription, which is required to use some of the AI Pin's features. The company has not yet taken a position on the replacement charging case, saying only that it will "share more information" once it completes its investigation.
Aside from the email notification, Humane does not appear to have posted an announcement about the battery safety hazard on its website or its social media accounts.
In November 2023, with the ambition to disrupt the tech industry, Humane unveiled its first product, the wearable AI assistant Ai Pin, which runs on Android, uses artificial intelligence models to answer user questions, and displays information in the palm of the user's hand through laser projection. It is designed to "replace the smartphone" for everyday tasks through voice control. However, the product met its Waterloo when it was first released in April 2024, and users and reviewers who got their hands on it pointed out serious flaws, such as poor battery life, frequent overheating, slow response times, and numerous software problems.
Last month Bloomberg reported that Humane appeared to have made a difficult choice in the face of Ai Pin's market coldness and was planning to seek an acquirer.
