Tribeca, New York, founded by actor Robert de Niro.film festival (Tribeca Festival) is about to have a historic moment with generative AIAI Movieswill make its debut at the 20-year-old film event.
On June 15, the Tribeca Film Festival will join forces with the OpenAI Corporate Premiere"Sora Short Films," which will feature five short films created using AI, marks the festival debut of OpenAI's text-to-video tool, Sora.
According to a statement released by the festival, the creators have committed to abide by the terms related to the use of AI that were agreed upon last year with the union of directors, actors and writers. Organizers offered the filmmakers training on OpenAI tools, a sneak peek at Sora, and the freedom to create independently, and asked them to complete their work within a few weeks.
OpenAI launched Sora in February, with the aim of "understanding and modeling the physical world in motion". While the tool has not yet been publicly released, OpenAI claims it can generate videos up to a minute long based on text.
Initially some Hollywood veterans saw the technology as a threat. Filmmaker Tyler Perry put his $800 million studio expansion on hold after seeing what Sora could do. However, some creators who have had the opportunity to use Sora since then say it has enhanced their creative process. They were able to communicate abstract concepts more clearly and visualize ideas in new ways. At the same time, they did not feel threatened by replacement.
