The survey results show that AI engineers at different levels generally earn more than non-AI engineers. Specifically, the average salary of entry-level AI engineers is $239,000, or about RMB 1.73 million, which is 8.57% higher than the average salary of non-AI engineers.
As the position increases, the salary gap widens further. For example, the average salary of a senior AI engineer is $680,500, far exceeding the $495,000 of a non-AI senior engineer.
At the company level, OpenAI ranks first in the AI engineer salary ranking, with its minimum salary exceeding US$900,000. Other well-known technology companies such as Cruise, Amazon, and Google also offer AI engineers extremely competitive salaries.
By region, AI engineers in the United States are far ahead in terms of salary, while AI engineers in mainland China rank 12th in terms of income, with salaries ranging roughly between $60,000 and $140,000.
This salary survey reflects the importance of AI skills in the current technology industry. With the continuous development and application of AI technology, the market demand for AI talents continues to grow, and companies are willing to pay high salaries to attract and retain these high-end talents.
However, the Levels.fyi report also pointed out that as the AI talent market matures, companies may become more cautious in their recruitment practices and compensation strategies. In the future, we may see the salary gap between AI and non-AI positions gradually narrow.
